Vacanza Pizzeria, an institution in Surry Hills, wanted to bring its brand of wood-fired pizza to Bondi. Occupying the existing Elva restaurant on bustling Bondi Road, this relatively formal Osteria needed to be transformed into a lively Trattoria-style eatery through the power of brand.

Elva’s versatile wordmark draws inspiration from traditional Italian hand-painted signage, with letterforms that evoke tubes of pasta. The design allows the logotype to stretch and squeeze like dough, even forming the shape of a pizza base in the roundel version.

Rooted in Italy’s rich automotive history, Elva’s hero colour is Racing Green, complemented by accents of lime, Aperol—the favourite aperitivo at Creme Bondi—and the charcoal of a woodfire oven. The understated sans serif hero font, Söhne Buch, contrasts with the playful Wordmark, while the vibrant palette boldly reflects Elva’s blend of traditional and modern cuisine.

To make the Vacanza ethos successful in Bondi, Bullet used our understanding of place to deliver a distinctive brand in a competitive neighbourhood. Today, Elva is buzzing with locals enjoying its wood-fired pizza and trattoria-style hospitality.
